!!A Key Difference: How the Tubing Extends!!

A Key Difference: How the Tubing Extends
While both systems are designed to manage long oxygen tubing, they handle tubing extension differently—and that can make a noticeable difference when moving from room to room.

O2 Remote™: Tubing Dispenses Without Pulling Against a Reel
The O2 Remote is designed so the oxygen tubing can dispense as the user moves without requiring the user to pull tubing against a wound reel or braking mechanism.
Because the tubing is not being pulled from a tensioned reel, it can travel naturally along the floor and around furniture and corners as the user moves. When excess tubing needs to be collected, the user simply presses the wireless remote to draw the tubing back toward the O2 Remote.
Why this matters:
-
No brake resistance to overcome while extending the tubing
-
No need to manually pull tubing from a reel
-
Tubing can follow the floor as the user moves
-
Wireless remote controls retraction when excess tubing needs to be collected
Reel Free Buddy™: Tubing Is Pulled From the Reel
Reel Free's own operating instructions direct the user to unreel the tubing by pulling on the user's end of the tubing. The system also includes an adjustable brake that changes the amount of resistance on the reel.

Reel Free recommends adjusting that brake resistance based on the home environment and specifically recommends lower resistance when tubing is routed around several corners.
Its troubleshooting instructions also address situations where tubing becomes loose, shifts or comes off the reel, including adjustments to the brake/tension control.

Two Different Approaches to Tubing Management
The distinction is simple:
O2 Remote: tubing dispenses without the user pulling against a reel; press the remote when you want to retrieve excess tubing.

Reel Free Buddy: tubing is physically pulled from the reel as the user moves, with an adjustable brake controlling resistance.

For someone comparing oxygen tubing management systems, this difference may be just as important as price, size or warranty.
Price Comparison
At the time of this review, the O2 Remote is listed at $139.99. Reel Free Buddy is listed at $297.50 as a sale price, with a $350 list price shown on its website.

When comparing price, look beyond the initial number. Reel Free includes 50-foot long tubing in the package, while O2 Remote users obtain their primary continuous tubing from their oxygen equipment supplier. Compare the complete setup you need rather than only the base device price.

Both products allow you to use your HSA or FSA card at checkout. However, Reel Free has a process you must follow in order to accept HSA or FSA accounts. Please refer to their process here.
Warranty Comparison
The O2 Remote currently includes a three-year limited warranty. Reel Free currently lists a one-year standard warranty and offers a three-year warranty as a paid add-on.

Warranty length is worth comparing because these devices are intended for frequent household use. Always read the complete warranty terms, exclusions and customer responsibilities rather than relying only on the number of years.

Size, Placement & Tubing
The O2 Remote unit is approximately 13 x 4 x 2 inches and weighs about 2.5 pounds. Reel Free lists Buddy at approximately 12 x 12 x 10 inches and 5 pounds.

The O2 Remote uses a separate compatible collection container, while Buddy uses an integrated housing. Consider where the system will sit, how visible you want it to be, and how the tubing route leaves the oxygen source.

O2 Remote is designed for one continuous length of compatible tubing, commonly 25, 35 or 50 feet, with the main tubing obtained from the oxygen equipment supplier. Reel Free currently includes a 50-foot green line, a seven-foot clear line and a tubing swivel in the package.

For either product, follow the oxygen equipment provider’s instructions for tubing length, connectors and replacement schedules.

Which one is right for you?
The better fit depends on which features matter most: initial cost, included tubing, standard warranty, product footprint, setup style, control preferences and the tubing configuration approved for the oxygen equipment.
